San Luis State Park – Mosca, CO
Located in Southern Colorado The Mosca Campground is located in the low dunes west of San Luis Lake.
All the campsites feature a panoramic view of the lake (seasonal – check the website for lake level), the surrounding mountains and the Great Sand Dunes.
The sunrises are stunning and
the sunsets are break taking.
Every night we had a lighting show.
Early one morning we went to the Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve ($3/adult – children are free) located in the San Luis Valley. http://www.nps.gov/grsa/index.htm
These are tallest dunes in North America at 750 feet (230 m) from the floor and covering about 19,000 acres. Researchers say that the dunes started forming less than 440,000 years ago.
It was fun to watch people “sand board” and “sand sled” down these dunes.
This was taken standing on the dunes and looking back towards the Sangre de Cristo Range.
